FOOTWEAR AND ACCESSORIES

Design and construction of footwear and fashion accessories – the department is the only one of its kind in the entire Czech Republic. The provides provides students with a broad art foundation and at the same time develops their craft and design knowledge and skills. During their studies, students study a variety of techniques which they then apply while creating simple accessories as well as artistically demanding models or entire collections made of materials such as leather, fabrics and textiles, wood, plastic or other materials. With the support of individual pedagogical approach, they are encouraged to develop their creavitivity and their ability to respond to the stimuli of contemporary applied art.
GRADUATE PROFILE
Graduates of the department are able to professionally perform creative design work. They can work used in professions such as designer of footwear and haberdashery accessories, designer of footwear and haberdashery components or producer of footwear and haberdashery accessories. They can work as independent designers or in innovative work teams. College degrees are usually chosen with a focus on fashion design or textile creation and production and technology of materials.

STUDENT WORK
Entrance exam
Applicants must submit their application to study at the Secondary School
of Applied Arts Uherské Hradiště by November 30th.
The entrance exam consists of a general talent test and another part of the
admission procedure in the department chosen by the applicant. As a part of the
admission procedure, in addition to the result of the applicant's talent test,
the students ´ primary school grades are considered as well.

Pencil or charcoal drawing on A2 wrapping paper. Applicants need their own
drawing tools and a firm, flat A2 drawing board. The drawing paper will be
provided at school. The time allowance for the task is

Course exam

Presentation of one's own previously created work in the range of max.
20 pieces. The portfolio must also be submitted in digital form in jpg format
(the size of the longer side is 2000px and 72dpi) and marked with the name:
surname_name_number, under which the candidate is taking the exam_year of
the exam.

The portfolio and the digital documentation must be submitted on the
day of the exam (on a USB drive that will be returned to the applicant on the
same day).
Without the required digital documentation, this part of the
admission procedure will not be considered
fulfilled.

FAMOUS ALUMNI
Jana Buch
Born in Zlín, she is a shoe designer, a graduate of the University of Applied Arts. She currently leads the Footwear Design studio at Tomas Bata University. Jana Buch has experience of designing shoes all over the world. She worked in Great Britain, Italy, France, Germany, Singapore and New Zealand. Her works are exhibited in shoe museums not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Spain and Germany. She has won numerous awards throughout her career. Among the most significant are winning the National Czech Design Award, the Josef Hlávka Award, the highest award of the Footwear Fashion Future competition in Düsseldorf, Germany, or the Red Dot Award for the design of firemen's gloves in 2018. She graduated from the Secondary school of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště in 1994.
MARIE PETRÁKOVÁ ABSOLONOVÁ
Born in Luhačovice, a shoe designer, a graduate of the University of Applied Arts. She specializes in the design of shoes and small accessories, and her work is inspired by personal experiences and by following the world art and design scene. She has created a distinctive style of wooden and leather platform sandals, which she designed for the „Simply for simple“ collection and as well as for Parisian fashion designer Anne Valéria Hash. Together with Petra Pluháčková, she created a unique project „Long distance love“ , a collection of dresses and shoes inspired by a long-distance relationship and experiences from internships abroad. She worked briefly at the Atelier du Sartel in Paris. She currently works as a designer of women's and children's shoes for the Spanish brand Camper. She graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště in 2010.
EVA KLABALOVÁ
Born in Zlín, a shoe designer, a graduate of the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín and the Shoes Leather Education Museum master's program in the Netherlands. She has gained experience all over the world, working in China, Portugal, Italy and the United States. While she was working as an assistant of Eliora Ginsburg at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, her models were discovered by Vogue magazine. After returning to the Czech Republic, Klabalová created her own circular brand Kave Footwear, which produces designer shoes in Zlín from waste material with an emphasis on minimizing ecological footprint. In addition, the young designer works as a developer for foreign companies, teaches at the University of Zlín, organizes workshops and training programs for the general public. She graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště in 2008.
