CERAMICS

Production and manufacture of ceramics and porcelain – the course emphasizes the mastery of basic artistic and craft skills with regard to the individual talent and abilities of the students, who are gradually guided from designing a ceramic object using a drawing to its final realization. Students are taught a diverse range of technological procedures and they learn how to work with various materials. Furthermore, they gain sculpting skills, they work with porcelain and majolica, and they also create large stoneware sculptures. During the studies students experience experimental flame firing of ceramics and cooperate with various companies during their execution of representative objects.
GRADUATE PROFILE
After graduations students can continue to work as designers or creators in arts and crafts, ceramic workshops and factories, they can work as freelance artists and managers of independent workshops. In case they take specialised courses, they can also work in the field of ceramics restoration. Students can also further develop their arts and crafts at colleges of fine arts.

STUDENT WORK
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
Applicants must submit their application to study at the Secondary School
of Applied Arts Uherské Hradiště by November 30th.
The entrance exam consists of a general talent test and another part of the
admission procedure in the department chosen by the applicant. As a part of the
admission procedure, in addition to the result of the applicant's talent test,
the students ´ primary school grades are considered as well.
TALENT EXAM

Pencil or charcoal drawing on A2 wrapping paper. Applicants need their
own drawing tools and a firm, flat A2 drawing board. The drawing paper will be
provided at school. The time allowance for the task is 2 hours.

Course exam

Presentation of one's own previously created work in the range of max.
20 pieces. The portfolio must also be submitted in digital form in jpg format
(the size of the longer side is 2000px and 72dpi) and marked with the name:
surname_name_number, under which the candidate is taking the exam_year of
the exam.

The portfolio and the digital documentation must be submitted on the
day of the exam (on a USB drive that will be returned to the applicant on the
same day).
Without the required digital documentation, this part of the
admission procedure will not be considered
fulfilled.

MAXIM VELČOVSKÝ
Born in Prague, a designer, an occasional graphic designer. He currently works as a teacher at the University of Applied Arts in Prague and as the creative director of Lasvit. He exhibits all over the world, his works are included in the collections of the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the New Pinakothek in Munich and the Mudac Museum of Modern Design and Applied Art in Lausanne. He mainly works with glass and porcelain, designs products in his own Qubus studio and also designs crystal products for the Bohemia Machine company. He graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště in 1995.
DAN PIRŠČ
Born in Ostrava, a renowned designer and artist, a former teacher of the University of Applied Arts in Prague. He currently lives in Mikulov in South Moravia, where he opened his own Pirsc Porcelain Studio focusing on the production of designer porcelain. In a short time, the studio has become one of the world's leading studios. In addition to small series, Pirčš also focuses on solitary pieces. He is the author of a number of iconic products, such as the Zeppelin salt and pepper shaker, the Torpédo stopper, the Lebka (Skull) money box, the Maryša serving set or a unique collection of porcelain 3D wallpapers. He graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště in 1986.
EVA PELECHOVÁ
A native of Třebíč, a recognized designer, a graduate of the University of Applied Arts in Prague, an active member of committees of international ceramic conferences. She also studied in Israel, Estonia and Germany, held dozens of exhibitions at home and abroad, her work is represented in Czech, German, Polish, Hungarian, Italian and Taiwanese private and public collections. Both Pelechová´s design and artistic works draw from her strong intellectual background, so ordinary objects of daily use represent deeper meanings. With her colleague Gabriel Vach, she is a creator of the Hidden Factory brand. The most famous product of this company are the retro cups that we know from childhood. During her professional career, Pelechová has received a number of awards, including the Rossenthal Design Award or the 25° Grottaglie Prize. She graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in 2004.
